It was amazing to see the book of Kells, I recommend to do the audio tour that you can download on your phone. This will give you an insight and deep understanding about the book. Very beautiful book and beautifully written. What an amazing thing to see. The long room took my breath away, I loved seeing all the books and the beautiful room. You have to come and see this if your in Dublin I highly recommend.

The book itself is pretty spectacular to see in person. You can only see the page that its open to that day (they occasionally change them), and it’s behind glass with special lighting. No photos allowed.
The attached library is amazing as well, which includes one of the original prints of the Proclamation. There’s also Brian Boru’s harp and a few other amazing artifacts. It’s a working library and you can see where the librarians and “readers” work.
Great piece of Irish history.

Try to go early in the morning before it’s people-y. The hour tour of the campus is nice, we did not end up doing the audio tour because it was so busy and we couldn’t turn around. So we saw the book and library. Seeing the book & library is about 30 minutes. The tour is about an hour. If they did one way traffic flow it would have been much more enjoyable.

Very cool place. I would highly recommend you get tickets in advance otherwise you may not be able.you can purchase online or through tours. Head to trinity college and just past main courtyard on the right.Directly across the entrance is a bathroom and cafe which I would go to first then go on tour. The first part is mainly historical and background. Once you get past that portion you going to the main library and it’s just an amazing site. I highly recommend this place it’s just one of those things you have to do.

You have to book the tickets in advance, as the tickets usually sold out before the day. And just to be sure, be there ten minutes before your slot.
It takes 30-60 minutes to visit, where you can see the original Book of Kells, a book containing the four gospels of the bible. Before the book, there are posters showing and describing the book. No flash photography at the exhibition.
After that, you can enter a room to look at the book itself. Sadly, you can only look at two pages of the book. I asked and they say the book will be flipped by professional handlers every 6-8 weeks. No photography allowed in the room to preserve the book.
The ticket will also include the visit to the Old Library and the Long Room, which is one of the prettiest library in the world. You can take pictures of busts of famous people. Do keep quiet as some students actually study in that library!
There is a downloadable app if you are interested for a free audio guide, and there is 10% off if you show the app at the till for the gift shop.
