What a fantastic place! I highly recommend getting there early before the coach trips, as you’ll have the place to yourself. 20m in from the entrance are ‘private’ guides, who can take you round and explain the different rooms. This is a must to fully understanding what you are looking at. Guide cost us 100TL for 4 adults and 2 children (though I assume this price changes depending on the day). You will not regret visiting any of the underground cities, they are incredible.

This is one of the best places I have ever visited. This structure is prehistoric and is a result of man’s ingenuity. The city was built underground to protect the people from invaders. It’s underground structure and the maze like caves are simply stunning. It can be a bit claustrophobic in certain sections. It can extremely difficult for people with restricted mobility. We did it as a part of green tour. Highly recommended on your visit to Cappadocia!

Recently spent several weeks touring Türkiye. Spent 5 days in the Cappadocia area. What an incredible landscape. First, if you are going to go to a few of the museums make sure to get the Museum Pass. Not only can it save money (or even if it doesn’t), you get to skip the lines by using the card to go through the turnstiles. Don’t have to wait in a line at every location. I’m 6 feet 1 inch so for taller people watch your head once you drop into the underground city. City goes down 4 stories. Couple times I stood up too fast going through some tunnels and bumped my head on the rock ceiling. There are employees down in the city to assist if you needed help. Take your time too, not a huge amount of oxygen flowing so can easily get tired or hot – especially the lower you go. Very interesting place and just the thought of 20,000 people living in this place is incredible. Wish we knew more about them and the actual age of the city.

The least touristy of the underground cities and the most rustic. This truly gives you the feel for how these places were inhabited. The other two cities have been highly renovated for tourism.
Amazing experience and well worth the visit. Don’t skip this while in Cappadocia!
