APS interviewed the victim. Seven weeks later the investigator still had not talked to or interviewed the perpetrators. It took two calls to get the investigator to call me back and tell me that much. It was clear then that he had forgotten many things in that period of time and did not accurately document the interview and this would not be a fair or accurate investigation. Still even at that point I underestimated how broken the investigation would be. Another month before the investigation was complete and I could obtain records. So many things done wrong. So many inaccuracies. For starters he tried to contact someone who was not involved as she had retired more that a year before the incident and he was told that at the initial interview when he came in with an incorrect list of people who worked at this facility. Then he investigated an individual who did not do the harm instead of the actual perpetrators. In fact this individual had tried to help. And this is only the beginning of the ridiculously and shamefully wrong and inaccurate investigation. This was a very broken investigation that failed to help an individual who had been injured getting services at an institution that is supposed to help and protect children and adults with disabilities and failed to hold the perpetrators accountable and remove the offending individuals including the directors of the place. Other individuals were harmed during the same incident that harmed this victim and are still in a place were they will continue to be harmed. The further abuse and harm on individuals still there is on the heads of this institution that is supposed to protect vulnerable adults. Awful and shameful. Broken investigations do not help protect anyone and perpetuate further harm. As far as I am concerned the State of Utah is a perpetrator of abuse and harm to vulnerable adults and fails to hold accountable other perpetrators. No justice was done here only more harm. What a sick and broken system.

I made an online report over a week ago. I called to follow up. The woman who answered interrupted me and told me APS would not help my 70 year old mother in law who was hospitalized due to neglect and abuse. I was told to call animal control ONLY after I asked what I could do to help this poor woman who is frightened for life and unable to return to her own home due to the abusive daughter residing in the basement. Shameful. Update: I called and they said it sounds like elder abuse and that I should call APS. Officer Jones was 100x more helpful and compassionate than APS. Our vulnerable adults cannot trust APS to protect them.

Looks like I am not the only one to have such a terrible experience with APS. From the moment the caseworker called me she was blatantly looking for reasons to close the case. She was condescending and completely unhelpful. I felt like a bug she was constantly trying to swat away. At one point I finally said “I’m sorry if I’m wasting your time, I just thought that someone at ‘adult protective services’ would be interested to know if an adult with and intellectual and developmental disability who can’t read or live on his own is being abused and exploited by his brother for his social security money.” I gave specific names of individuals who I knew would have eye witness accounts of violence etc and she said “I don’t need their contact information, I won’t be calling them.”
I can’t believe my tax payer money is going to this program which seems to do absolutely nothing and is also uninterested in the welfare of those they serve. If you have had this experience as well, please find out who your state legislators are and ask that this office be audited. It’s a complete joke. You can find your legislators at le.utah.gov

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. They have done absolutely nothing after a valid notification was sent to them. My elderly mother has been exploited and taken advantage of (with proof) and they have not even made a phone call. So much for them protecting the aging.

I called about my AC being broken at my apartment. They told me it DID violate a Utah code, but refused to help me, told me I was on my own, and actually suggested that I move in with a friend until winter. Then hung up
